Treat ingredient names that mean the same thing as one

"Mozzarella cheese" in one recipe and "mozzarella" in another should count as one thing on the grocery list and in filters, while "bread" and "bread flour" stay apart. The idea: built-in synonyms for each language, your own aliases on top, and a question before anything is merged. How much automatic matching would you trust, and how much would you rather correct by hand? Tell us in the comments. Suggested by a beta tester. Decision — 29 October 2026: Not planned. Do not introduce automatic ingredient synonym merging. Grocery grouping must not silently equate different foods, languages or dietary variants. Keep exact matching and explicit recipe ingredient edits; reject the proposed global alias/merge mechanism.
